This past weekend, while being buried under what seemed to be 100 loads of clothes, I found myself watching HGTV and the Food network. HGTV had on shows for decorating for the holidays and of course Food network had on holiday meals. I even DVR’d Paula Dean’s Cookie Swap. Now, I never profess to be a Domestic diva or chef of any kind. Heck, Fonzy cleans better than I do, thanks to his Momma, and I’ve always shouted as loud as I could that I HATE to cook. But I’m starting to notice a change in myself, or maybe it’s just old age. (I will be 40 in 2 years – YIKES!)
While watching the HGTV decorating shows, I longed for a house to decorate for the holidays. They had so many great ideas that just wouldn’t work in an apartment. I guess I could go all out and decorate my little patio, but what is a patio compared to a whole front yard! Now, I wouldn’t get too crazy with the decorating, but I would have lots of lights, maybe a reindeer or two, and a nativity scene. OK…maybe that’s a bit much, but you know what I mean.
As for the cooking, Paula had me wanting to have a cookie swap with my neighbors. I even told Fonzy I wanted to have one, but he just looked at me like I had lost my mind. Which really is nothing new. He looks at me like that all the time. We don’t even know our neighbors even though we’ve lived in this apartment for almost 4 years. But I’m sure if we had a house, we would get to know our neighbors. OK…maybe not. We're not very social, but hey, we might…just for the sake of a cookie swap.
I really am noticing a change though. I don’t mind cooking anymore. I’ve even been searching for new recipes, wanting to try new things. It’s a start I guess. Who knows, this time next year, I may very well be a perfect wife, perfect mother, domestic diva and chef! Along with being a great belly dancer, expert knitter (donating my beautiful blankets, sweaters, and scarves to all the needy people around the world), a bestselling author, owner of beautiful house and back into a six 8 with six pack abs and nice round booty. Hey….it could happen.
