The Morning After - Snow Day

DSC_0184_2 DSC_0197_2 DSC_0190_2 DSC_0206_2 DSC_0212_2 DSC_0228_2 snowporch2 DSC_0217_2 DSC_0210_2 DSC_0186_2 DSC_0204_2 DSC_0224_2 snowdayhome
I woke up this morning to a winter wonderland, body aches, and a stuffy nose! I probably should have had a coat on yesterday as I was out taking pictures. I knew better, but the excitement of the snow had me like a kid who doesn't care about coats and hats. They just want to get out in the snow and play! And I didn't have that responsible adult telling me to get my butt in the house and put a coat on. I guess I should have been that responsible adult, but that part of me was on a coffee break or something.

We have another snow day and I plan on staying inside. Of course that is after I went out this morning to take pictures. It was the first thing I did, even before coffee! The snow were calling Titus and I. He loves the snow and always up for an adventure when no one else is. I wasn't out there for too long, but enough to appreciate the beauty around me. Carolina blue skies, snow glistening in the sunlight, and the quiet hush of the morning.
The magic of an ordinary.....no, extraordinary day.

Then I dashed inside, got my coffee and snuggled under a blanket. And that's where you'll find me for the rest of the day!

For those here in NC, enjoy your second snow day!

Snow Day!

DSC_0035 The weatherman has been predicting snow the past few days and we actually got it! The snow started falling last night in all it's beautiful, snowy glory. Elijah Snow IMG_7601 DSC_0007_2 snowy porch DSC_0002_2 DSC_0041_2 DSC_0039_2 Titus snow DSC_0027 IMG_7668 This morning we woke to a wintry wonderland and the hush the snow provides. I was up early before anyone else and enjoyed the quietness. I love a snow day. It brings me back to my childhood in Dunkirk, NY, south of Buffalo. Growing up with all that snow, you would think I would be done with it but I sometimes miss the snow.

Schools are cancelled, and I'm working from home. I made a late breakfast of cheddar and chive waffles with eggs and plenty of coffee. As I type this, I'm thinking of brewing a second pot! I have butter softening for cookies, because you can't have a snow day without some baking. Knitting is on the agenda and some letter writing I've been trying to get to. For everyone up the east coast getting this snow, stay safe and warm! And enjoy the simplicity a snow day can bring.

Arctic Chill

DSC_0267 DSC_0262 DSC_0266 DSC_0272 DSC_0292 The past few days it has been COLD!

A fire is always going in the fireplace, layers are worn and plenty of quilts and blankets are tossed about waiting to be cuddled under.

We have the prediction of snow this weekend. I think last year on my birthday we had a little snow. My birthday is Friday, so maybe I will get snow again. I say if it's going to be this cold, it might as well snow!

Let is snow!

Snow!

DSC_0247 DSC_0253 DSC_0254 DSC_0249 DSC_0255 We woke to big fluffy snowflakes yesterday!

It lasted about 30 minutes.

It was pretty while it lasted.

Well, the weatherman got it right this time!

The snow started around noon, and quickly covered everything in white. Just like a kid, I couldn't wait to go outside. Our neighborhood was so quiet. Everyone was nestled away inside, but the snow was beckoning me. To enjoy it's winter beauty, the hush of the neighborhood, the swirl of flakes. It was magical. And I enjoyed every minute of it.

We got a snow day today!

I had all these plans of going out with Elijah, who loves the snow as much as I do, to take the dogs for a walk around the neighborhood, make a snowman and get plenty of pretty pictures. I fell asleep last night with visions of sugarplums snow day dancing in my head.

This is what actually happened....I got up, had my morning coffee, snapped a few pictures, made breakfast, did a little work and decided to head out.

Titus was already outside as he loves the snow and had been out all morning playing in it. I tried to get his leash on before we left the backyard, but he got away from me and ran out the gate! And my snow day dreams went down hill from there! I was out running after Titus all through the neighborhood, yelling out his name like a crazy lady. I had to chase him through woods and warn all the kids and families, sledding and having a great snow day that my dog doesn't bite as he ran toward them. He was running circles around me in the middle of an open field, would stop for a second, look at me, and as soon as I got close, he would take off running! We were running through yards messing up all the pretty snow. I had neighbors looking out their windows laughing at us. So not what I envisioned! I finally caught him after about an hour of chasing him!

Needless to say, after that fiasco I was done with our snow day! We are not on good terms right now!
