Youth Day - Elijah

elijahmsg boysstarbar
Today was Youth Day at our church at Elijah was one of 3 boys chosen to give a message. His nerves got the best of him when he first got up to give his message and he was unable to give it. But after some encouragement from Fonzy, he was able to get up there, fight his fears and make it through his message. I was proud of him.

Brunch after church and home for a much needed Sunday nap. Sunday naps are the best!

Fishing

Elijah loves to fish. I've been promising to take him fishing and today was the day. And what it day it was!

So I grew up in a fishing family. Dad fished, brother fished, Grammy fished, Aunts fished, cousins fished. We all fished. It's been a long time since I've been fishing and when I did fish I didn't put the bait on the hook or take the fish off. I just cast out the line, and reeled in the fish. I figured Elijah had been fishing several times with his older brother Manuel, and has been with his Uncle Jay, so he should have no problem fishing. I was wrong!

I pack up the boys, dogs, fishing poles, worms and off we go!

From the start Elijah was having problems. He would cast out his line, but it wouldn't go very far. Fishing line was getting tangled, pole wasn't working, anything that could have gone wrong did. At one point, his line went flying into the water, and came off the pole. That was the last straw! Elijah started having a metal breakdown! It didn't help that Ezekiel was teasing him by putting his pole in the water, and acting like he caught "the big one." I tried to call Manuel to see if he could help us over the phone, no answer. I called my brother Jay, no answer. Ezekiel tried looking at YouTube videos, but nothing helped. And then I noticed a guy fishing on another pier. A life saver! We went to where he was fishing, and I asked him if he could please help Elijah because he was having a meltdown. The guy chuckled a little and kindly helped Elijah. He untangled the line and showed Elijah how to cast out correctly. The guy caught several fish while we were there, Elijah none. He told Elijah there were plenty of days he fished and caught nothing. It's all part of fishing. Elijah was still disappointed, but at least now he knows how to cast out the line, and next time we go fishing, he is going to catch some fish. I hope....

Shoulder Lean

fonzyelijah
One day soon he will no longer lean on his shoulder. He will have outgrown it. One day it will be the last time and we probably won't even notice it. So capturing the moment now, just in case this was the last time.

Rain, All Day Meetings and Shrimp & Grits

rainynorthhills shrimp and grits
This week I've been in a conference that I am basically the event planner for at my job. All day meetings, at a local hotel, drinking lots and lots of coffee and eating way too much. I help pick out the menu and every year I always look for shrimp and grits! One of my favorites! This years shrimp and grits were really good. The grits were nice and creamy. It helped on this dreary day/week we've been having. And the cupcake, chocolate peanut butter was so good. I need to make some of them!

Azul and the Sunday Afternoon Nap

meazul
Me and this dog right here have a love/hate relationship. Well, I guess I should say I have one. I'm not really sure what he thinks! Azul is a beautiful Pit Bull, but he drives me nuts. Maybe it's because he's still a puppy, but he gets into everything! He eats my plants, loves to grab my yarn and take off running with it, with yarn unraveling behind him. You have to keep watch over him all the time. If you can't see him, he's probably into something he shouldn't be! But then he has his sweet side. He loves to cuddle, and when he's sleepy he wants to be next to someone. Too bad it doesn't last. As soon as he wakes up.....watch out! Sweetness is out the window and the terror is back!

Helping

I very rarely bring work home with me, especially on a weekend, so I was glad when Ezekiel decided to help me. No fun working on a Saturday when the sun is shining and it's warm out.

Porch Swing Chronicles

Blog_2014 1000I'm still working on my newest doll. I started her dress, but decided I didn't like it. So have started on a pair of bloomers, and will decided what else to make for her. I really need to get on the ball. I see so many other things I want to knit, but hate having more than one work in progress. Right now, I have 3! This doll, and two blankets!

Book Love

library library2 library3
I've always had a love of books. Growing up, books were my escape. Escape from my world filled with cancer, sadness and death. Books took me to other worlds, happy places, with happily ever after endings. So unlike my world at that time.

The past few years, I haven't read many books. Knitting needles have taken the place of books. I just read Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler and it bought tears to my eyes. I haven't had a book do that in a long time.

I went to the library tonight, and got lost in the rows and rows of stories. I look forward to getting lost in one.
