Football Life - Hook 'Em Horns!

Before I met Fonzy I was a casual football watcher. I'd watch a game here or there mainly the Buffalo Bills because I'm from that area. Then into my life came Fonzy! Born and bred in Texas football is in his DNA!

When Ezekiel was just 3 years old Fonzy took him to a Carolina Panthers game and he's been their biggest fan every since! Both boys played flag football when they were little and Elijah continues to play high school football today. Football season has become one my happiest times of year. I'm sure it has something to do with it being Fall, but I love Friday night football. Being in the stands with Fonzy on perfect Fall days, pouring rain or freezing temps while we watch Elijah play is something I look froward to all week.

Saturdays are spent cheering on the Texas Longhorns and watching all the college football games. I'm sure I drive Fonzy crazy with all the questions I ask  even though I've watched for years now. We've binged QB1, watch Hard Knocks, Last Chance U and any other series related to football. Football has been woven into the very fabric of our lives. And speaking of fabric...isn't this fabric the cutest! Since Fonzy is the biggest Texas Longhorn fan, I'm now a huge fan too! I'm not sure where I'll get to wear a Texas Longhorns dress, but that's besides the point! I couldn't resist making the dress.

Popover Dress

Wow, I haven't posted in a bit! I kind of miss posting on my blog regularly like I use to. I think it's time to start back up and why not start with my Popover Dress!

First let me say I LOVE this dress. And so proud to say I made it! One of the main reasons I wanted to learn to sew was to make vintage inspired dresses. I love the dresses from the 50's and 60's and watch old classic movies sometimes just for the clothes. Since I'm still a beginner sewist, I look for easy patterns, with a few new skills I can learn. The Popover Dress from Gertie Sews Jiffy Dresses was perfect! It's fairly easy for beginners and I learned something new, creating and applying bias facing. I've read reviews saying the dress takes about 2 hours to complete. That wasn't so in my case. It took a bit longer, but I'm thinking a second go round might be quicker and there will definitely be a second dress. Also, Gertie has a tutorial for making the dress! What more could you ask for!

So my sewing journey continues. I have several projects I want to make, but I've been hesitate to get started. The patterns have skills I haven't tried yet, and fear of failing stops me from attempting them. I know that's crazy, because I'll never learn the skills if I don't attempt them! Hey, I'm a work in progress! I'm going to give myself a pep talk and just do it! Until then, I'll admire my Popover dress. Isn't it cute!

Pumpkins, Black Cats and a farm! Oh my!

DSC_0131_2 DSC_0009_2 DSC_0054_2 DSC_0121_2 DSC_0145_2 DSC_0147_2 DSC_0138_3 DSC_0097_2 DSC_0113_2 DSC_0110_2 DSC_0067_2 DSC_0070 DSC_0032_2 DSC_0042 DSC_0004 DSC_0068 DSC_0001 DSC_0003 DSC_0026 DSC_0129_3 Happy October!!!

I know I say this every year, so why stop now! I LOVE Fall and October is by far my most favorite month! Give me all the pumpkins, blacks cats, and witches! So of course when I saw this fabric at Joann's I had to snatch some up, along with some other fun print I plan on making a skirt with.

This is my 2nd Cleo skirt, the first in a flamingo print. I'll be posting it soon. The second time around was so much easier and I have a third coming up! I'm a beginner sewer, and this is a great pattern for someone just learning to sew. AND! It has pockets!!! I now want to make all the novelty print skirts! People are going to start knowing me by my print skirts and I'm okay with that!

My sister, niece and I went to a local farm to get pictures. Nyla thought all the pumpkins were apples and kept saying apples, no matter how many times we told her they were pumpkins. So apples they were. She is definitely have mothers child. She wasn't too thrilled when she got hay on her hands, and wasn't feeling the tractor ride too much. We were lucky to get any pictures of her smiling. We did a lot of singing and dancing for those rare smiles. She did however make all the animal sounds when she saw them, and the cow even moo'd for her!

If you are local to the Fuquay-Varina/Raleigh, NC area you should check out Hipp Farms. It's a great place, with the friendliest of people and lots to do for the little ones. Too bad my youngest is 16 and wants nothing to do with a farm because I would definitely go back. I just might go back anyways when I get my next skirt done. It felt good being out in the fresh air and sunshine! I don't think I'll get back on the rat race barrels though! As you can see in the pictures, I wasn't very good at keeping the barrel from rolling and down I went! It was pretty funny though!

Here's to more farm visits and novelty print skirts!

Also, got this ring for Mothers Day with all my boys name on it. I LOVE it!

Sewing Chronicles - Spring Daisy Pajama Pants

DSC_0086_2 I had to stand on the stool to get a good shot of the pants. I couldn't get a good one othewise! DSC_0104_2 IMG_0542 DSC_0092_2
Hi Peeps! I have a new sewing project to share. Daisy pajama pants!

I haven't gotten my confidence up enough to tackle any of the vintage dresses I want to make, but wanted to sew something. Since I live in pajamas when home, I figured this was a good start for my first commercial pattern. It's Simplicity 2290, a learn to sew pattern. All I've learned in Mimi G's Sew It Academy so far helped me with this project. If you want to learn to sew I recommend Mimi G. She is awesome!

These pants are so comfy! They are a tad too big, I should have cut the medium instead of the large, but pajamas are comfiest when big. At least I think so. I lounged around in these most of the day. The project actually helped boost my confidence a little. I think I'm ready to tackle a simple dress. I've decided to get a serger, so as soon as it arrives (I can't wait!) I will be ready to make a dress! At least I think I'll be ready. Sergers look kind of scary!

Witchy Halloween

DSC_0470DSC_0475_2 DSC_0472_2 DSC_0511_2 DSC_0486_2 DSC_0477_2 DSC_0562_2 DSC_0519_2 DSC_0543_2 DSC_0578_2 DSC_0469 DSC_0536_2 DSC_0568_2 DSC_0583_2 DSC_0560_2 DSC_0545_2 DSC_0507_2 DSC_0512_2 DSC_0517_2 DSC_0528_2 DSC_0523
Growing up my Mom often called me Bruja (witch in Spanish), mostly when my hair was a tangled mess! She would say I looked like a Bruja and needed to get my hair brushed. I hated to get my hair brushed! It was torture! But I think being a Bruja stuck, so here I am!

Bruja!

Since I had to come to work today, I decided to use some of my new sewing skills and sew a fun Halloween skirt. I love Tim Burton movies, Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Coraline. They are some of my favorites, so I picked material from Nightmare Before Christmas. It's kind of hard to see the print, but Jack and Sally are on it. I convinced my sister to go with me to Historic Oakwood Cemetery here in Raleigh to take pictures. I'm always on the lookout for great places to take pictures and Oakwood did not disappoint. Luckily Karen goes along with all my madness, and was happy to walk amongst the graves with me. That's what sisters are for!

I had so much fun with these pictures. All I was missing was a broom!

Happy Halloween Peeps!
