Happy March 1!

IMG_0328 IMG_0341 Happy March 1! Spring is just around the corner and I am so ready for warm weather and planting flowers. These flowers come up each Spring. I can't remember what they are called, but I love the vibrant purple.

“I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it.” ~ Shug Avery, The Color Purple

With the warm weather, I decided to make a salad today. I had this one Honey Mustard Chicken, Avocado + Bacon Salad pinned on my Salad and Slaw Pinterest board and decided to try it out. It was sooo good. I loved the dressing. Fonzy loved it too. Definitely keeping it in rotation.

Sweet Random Life

Kinda of dreary and chilly this morning. I'm ready for the warm weather to stay! One day we are in the 80's, the next back in the 60's. Just give me the 80's!

Porch swing will be finished tonight. I stained the bottom half yesterday and doing the top today. We decided to do a dark stain. I like dark stain, but not sure if I'm liking it on the swing. I won't decide until it's done and dry. Maybe once it's dried it won't seem so dark.

I've decided to work on the two babydolls I need to make at the same time. I finished the body of one last night, so going to start the body of the other today. I will switch back and forth between them and hopefully it won't take me too long to finish both. I'm kinda ready to move on to other things. Like....

~ socks - going to attempt a pair this weekend.
~ crochet - I have seen SO many crochet blankets, ripples, granny's, stripes! I want to make one!
~ flower planting - I have seeds, but need to prepare the flower beds. I might get to some of that this weekend. The seeds need to be in the ground before April is up!
~ knit something other than monsters and dolls. I have a few cowl patterns I want to try and even a cape. I figured a cape would be much easier than a sweater. And I kinda want to do a photo shoot in the woods with a basket and a Red Riding Hood cape. I know....according to my husband, I say the darnest things. I'm sure the Red Riding Hood cape would be one of the darnest things I say.

I've been craving shrimp and grits! I have all the ingredients, so thinking shrimp and grits for dinner tomorrow. Tonight is left-overs! How exciting!

This was a random post huh? Random is good sometimes :)

Mr. Clean, Mr. Clean - My Momma's Husband

365/January 18 - Mr. Clean

You know, it's funny the things you remember. I've been thinking about my Mom alot lately. I just at this very moment realized the anniversary of her death was January 6th. She has been gone for 25 years now. Such a long time.

I have many happy memories, but as time goes on you forget things. Your memory starts fading, but then you see something and it sparks a memory. Mr. Clean did it for me today.

My mom once told me when she was little she use to pretend Mr. Clean was her husband. I don't remember what we could have been talking about, but she shared that tidbit with me. Of all the people in the world to pick, she picked Mr. Clean. Well - he wasn't a bad looking guy and at least her house would be clean, right?

I Heart Fall

I Heart Fall

Don't you just love Fall? How can you not? There's so much color and beauty around right now. The reds, oranges, yellows. When I'm driving by the trees I just want to stop and take picture upon picture! But then I would never make it to where I'm going. Luckily this tree is in our backyard, so I didn't have to go far.

On the homefront, we all did our chores last night, so house is still clean! Yay for us! Boys will be starting basketball in about a week. We've had a nice little break from sports. Soon we will be running around like crazy with the boys playing and Fonzy coaching again this year.

Still working on my surprise monster. I need to be done this week, because I have plans on learning how to crochet this weekend for sock monkey hats I want to make! More on that adventure later!

OK....off for more coffee and in a little bit a flu shot! I hate needles! So not looking forward to that!

Weekend Breakfast

weekend breakfast

HaPpY Saturday!

Time for the dreaded Saturday chores!

We need a new way of keeping the house clean during the week, so Saturday mornings aren't spent cleaning!

I just noticed I need that stuff in my dishwasher so our dishes don't have spots! Can plastic plates be called dishes?

Smile - life is beautiful

Smile

Wow - it's October 18th already! This month is flying by.

This has always been my favorite time of year. It still is. Both Samuel and Manuel were born in October. Manuel's birthday was yesterday. He turned 21! Of course I had to give him the speech that just because you are of legal drinking age, doesn't mean you need to go out and act a fool. He called me this morning. He was suffering through work because of a hangover. My advice obviously went in one ear and out the other. He was at least smart enough to have a designated driver.

Samuels' birthday is on the 20th. He would have been 22. On his birthday I try to reminisce on all the good memories, and not the fact that he is no longer with us. I don't want his birthday to be a sad day, but a day to remember the life he had. No matter how short it was. He was here, he was loved, and I want that to be the focus of his birthday.

It's suppose to get chilly this week. The mornings have already been chilly....making it so hard to get out of our warm and cozy bed. The trees are starting to turn red, orange, yellow. I need to get out and take some pictures before they are all blown away. Been doing some baking, and loving the cozy feel of home. I'm ready to light up the fireplace and hibernate!

Lovin' October! Who's lovin' it with me?

Magic

magic

She tapped her finger & nothing happened & she thought she had lost her magic, but it had only changed & it took her awhile to figure it out.
~ Story People

Magic happens on ordinary days. Did you know that? It does. You just have to look for it.

I've been trying to capture the magic in my ordinary day and sometimes I find it.......like bubbles floating up to Heaven....magic.

Small Things

small

Finally feeling better today! I'm not coughing up a lung, body is not aching, throat not sore and I can breathe...sorta! That's a big improvement.

Today, since I'm feeling so much better I decided to share a few things I'm thankful for. I complained when I was sick, so it's only right to share some good....no matter how small.

I'm thankful....

His Hands and Feet

Hands Feet Fonzy

Fonzy and I got into a disagreement this morning. Nothing big, just one of our you don't understand me kinda things. You know, you tell your husband something, just making a simple comment and it turns into something else all together. Too much for 6-something in the morning! Anyway, he and Ezekiel left for school/work and Elijah and I did the same.

Going over some of my pictures, I noticed these I took of Fonzy's hands and feet. I don't know why I take these pictures. I just happen to notice his hands and feel an urge to capture them. Same with his feet. Strange, I know. But I think about my Mom and wish I had more pictures, even of her hands. I remember her having stubby fingers with short nails. I remember Samuel's hands with long skinny fingers. They always reminded me of ET's fingers.

After a while, you forget the little details of a person, their hands, their feet, a beauty mark. Their laughter, the sound of their voice. I try and I try to remember my mom's laugh, but I can't. What I wouldn't give to hear it again. I'm lucky that I have Samuel's voice with his music. It's hard to listen to now, but I'm sure with time I will be able to and not cry.

These photos of Fonzy's hands and feet - I'm glad I have them. These hands have held me at my saddest time, have chased away nightmares. His feet have traveled hundreds of miles to the life we have now. And even though he get's on my nerves every now and then, I wouldn't trade him, his feet or his hands! Not for all the tea in China!
