Singing and Surviving

Elijah's kindergarten class had a program on Friday. They sang a bunch of songs about the ocean and beach, since it's almost summer time. They sang about a baby beluga whale, and a farmer who had an ocean full of creatures, sharks that bit, crabs that pinch, and they sang about being down by the bay. Elijah was singing sporadically, and wouldn't do the hand motions. After the show, I asked him why he didn't sing, and do the motions like the other kids and he said he was embarrassed.......embarrassed of what, I'm not really sure.

Elijah (green hat in the middle) looking all cute before the singing began.

looking bored and not doing the hand motions

finally singing....

......but not for long, looking bored again

Elijah had a small speaking part, he asked "have you ever seen a goose, kissing a moose", for the down by the bay song. He was acting all shy and embarrassed, but actually got his part out.

On Saturday, the kids sang their songs again for Cancer Survivors Day at one of the local hospitals. The crowd was filled with cancer survivors, family and friends. We found out the boys music teacher is a cancer survivor. Some of the survivors wore purple shirts or name tags with their name and the type of cancer they survived. Being here bought back memories of Mommy. The bald heads, the scarves, the turbins. Mommy use to have a wig, but she hated to wear it, she said it itched. I couldn't help wishing Mommy, Tremayne and Daddy were in this group.........the survivors of cancer.

a local drummer who also works at the hospital was singing This Little Light of Mine, while the survivors held up candles and sang along...."this little light of mine, I'm going to let is shine, let it shine, let is shine, let it shine, LET IT SHINE!"
