Weekending

This past week was chock-full of goodness. That's the type of weekend I like.

My gladiolus are starting to bloom. I love grabbing a cup of coffee and heading to the backyard to check out my flower beds. I'm normally joined by Titus, bees hard at work and birds chirping away. Great way to spend a Saturday morning.

It was HOT this weekend. So ice coffee was on the agenda with a little knitting. I think that was the only time I knit this weekend. Too much other stuff going on. Like the State Farmers Market. I love the Farmers Market. So much goodness in one place. I bought some things new to me. Patty Pan Squash was one of them. That's the little yellow flower looking squash. I've never had it. The farmer said it was kind of sweet and told me how to cook it. so I bought a few. I have yet to taste them.

Another purchase, and my favorite of the day - local honey. I LOVE using honey in recipes, but hate to admit I've always bought honey in the store. I've never tried local raw honey. Oh my gosh! I may never use store bought again. Bee Blessed Pure Honey has a booth at the Farmers Market. So many different variety's and just the sweetest couple. I was able to sample all the different variety's and decided on the Alfalfa. I also got some fresh eggs from them. If you've never had pure, raw unfiltered honey, you must try it! I would love to visit their bee farm and do a post about them. I think on my next trip to the Farmers Market I will ask them about it.

Another place I always visit at the Farmers Market is D'Vine Foods. They have jelly, jams, preserves, and butters. Along with salsa's, relishes and other delights. I've gotten the banana and pumpkin butters and really like them. This visit I decided to try something different. I got the Chunky Monkey Butter. It has banana, pineapple and coconut in it. I slathered some on a leftover biscuit from breakfast when I got home and loved it. I was told it would be good with peanut butter on a sandwich. We'll see. I'm thinking the maple bacon jam might be on my list next to try! All in all it was a good trip. Even better that I had my sister along.

After the Farmers Market we hit the pool! And it was much needed. Saturday was well into the 90's, hot and sticky!

Hubby and I did some furniture shopping this weekend too, and bought new living room furniture. We've had our furniture for forever! I'm so excited, but not excited we have to wait until next week for delivery. I'm not a very patient person.

Sunday, we attended Ezekiel's girlfriend's graduation and that about wrapped up our weekend. See...chock-full of goodness.

Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn

breakfast DT Raleigh downtown raleigh4 breakfast DT Raleigh3 zeke downtown raleigh5 breakfast fonzy Ezekiel on top of the world my story mattersMost every weekend, I wake up before Fonzy and the boys, head downstairs with Titus and cook breakfast. It's our Saturday routine. But this past Saturday, we switched it up! And I think I enjoyed it the most.

We headed downtown Raleigh for breakfast, and then the Raleigh Home Show. I was on a mission to see the Property Brothers from HGTV. Normally we head to IHop for breakfast, but I wanted to try something different. Now this may seem really strange, but while looking at venues for a conference for work I found that the Holiday Inn downtown Raleigh has a restaurant at the top of it. The Skye Tower Restaurant which is open to the public. I really was just going for the view of downtown, but my breakfast was really good. The grits were some of the best I've had. Nice and creamy, just the way I like them. It wasn't anything fancy, but I enjoyed it. If you happen to check it out, order off the menu, not the buffet. Fonzy and Ezekiel were good sports going with me. Not their first choice, but they went to make me happy. Elijah said he needed a break and slept in!

You know, it truly is the little things. This weekend breakfast made my day. If felt good to not have to cook and just enjoy a beautiful day. After breakfast we headed out to see the Property Brothers. Unfortunately the place was packed and I couldn't get close enough to see them. I saw them from afar as I was riding the escalator to leave. I did however find a cutout of them and had to take a picture. So....I kind of saw the Property Brothers.

Baby, It's Cold Outside

It's going to be COLD this weekend!

These pictures are from my birthday weekend - January 22. We got some ice and a little snow. Unfortunately, our electricity went out also. Not a great way to spend a birthday weekend. Since we had no electricity or heat we headed to my sister's house for the day. I guess that was God's way of saying we needed some sister time.

This weekend is Valentines Day and Elijah's birthday. He's our Valentine baby. Not sure what we have planned since its going to be so cold. But I'm seeing lot's of hearts! Maybe heart pancakes, some heart cookies dipped in chocolate(I think that's more for me). And knitting of course. I guess whatever we can come up with we'll do since we will be inside.

So love, birthday, hearts, baking, and knitting - on the agenda for this weekend!

Here's to the weekend!

Weekending

We had a full weekend.

My flowers are steadily growing. I thought I pulled all the gladiolus bulbs out of that first bed, and transferred them, but obviously I missed a few. That flower bed was suppose to be sunflowers and pumpkins. I guess it's gladiolus, sunflowers and pumpkins now! Not sure how that is going to work. I have other sprouts coming up, so not sure if it's pumpkin leaves or sunflowers. Too little to tell just yet.

Weekends are for breakfast.

The pink bunny slipper mission continues. While getting a pedicure I knitted away. I got plenty of stares.

We are finally painting our room! We have been in our house for about 5 years and our room was one of the last to be painted. We have family (in-laws) coming to visit end of June, so getting all the Honey Dos' off the list.

Even with all the Honey Do's still had time for a Sunday afternoon nap. He napped, I knitted in bed beside him. Must get bunny slippers done by Friday!

Weekends are good.

Weekending - Farmers Market and Flea Market

On Saturday we headed to the Raleigh Farmers Market and Flea Market. The day was perfect. Sunny and in the low 80s. We couldn't have asked for a better day. I love going to the Farmers Market. So much goodness in one place. With Summer almost here, I plan on doing a lot of grilling and eating fresh fruits and vegetables. Strawberries were in abundance at the market! I was looking for fresh peaches but I don't think it's time for them yet. I found some green tomatoes and plan on making some fried green tomatoes, probably tonight when I get home from work. We also grabbed some kale. I've never had kale. I know it's all the rage now, but I'm not really sure what to do with. Guess I need to check out all my recipe apps. I couldn't pass up a butternut squash to throw on the grill or asparagus.

Knightdale, the little town we live in starts their Farmers Market at the end of May. It's about 5 minutes away, and I can't wait to check it out. I'm looking forward to all the local produce, fresh eggs, and other goodies they offer. I plan on making it a regular part of my Saturdays.

The flea market was a treasure trove of any and everything you could think of. I went looking for a little chair to sit my dolls on. I found one for $5, but forgot to take a picture. Being a Betty Boop fanatic  I couldn't pass up a picture of this life size statue. Anyone want to get her for me? She's only $500. Not sure where I would put her, but I'm sure I could find a place.

I loved the dollhouse. If I had a little girl, she would have a dollhouse and I would be right there playing along with her.

Looking through my photos, I seem to have a thing for pigs. Who knew! Well, I do love bacon, so maybe that's why I was drawn to the pigs.

I'm so happy for warmer weather and backyard hanging. We really didn't use our backyard a lot last Summer, but I plan on making us use it a lot more this year. Grilling, hanging out, enjoying the season that's upon us.
