My Time of Year

It's my time of year. I say this every year, and will say it again. Fall is my favorite time of year. Bring on the brightly colored leaves, pumpkin everything, cool nights, football, and evenings filled with knitting. I'm ready!

WIP Wednesday/Yarn Along

It's been a while since I've participated in WIP Wednesday/Yarn Along. The knitting hasn't stopped, just the posting about the knitting, but I'm back at it!

My WIP is another doll! Of course. It seems I'm always working on a doll. This little miss currently doesn’t have a name, except My Summer Doll. I am currently working on her little jumper which is pink and with her green hat she reminds me of watermelon! What summer isn't complete without some watermelon. I found little watermelon buttons for her jumper. It's taking me longer than usual. I'm not sure yet how to do her hair. I'm thinking braided pigtails, but that's not set in stone. I'm hoping to have Miss Summer done soon, as I have other projects I want to start.

Bacon Cupcakes & A Doll

This past weekend, my sister and I experimented with cupcakes! I'm the "out the box" kinda girl when it comes to cupcakes with frosting out the container. I've never made cupcakes from scratch until now.

My office is having a Valentines Bake Sale on Valentines Day and I wanted to make something different, so searched online for cupcake recipes and found this one - French Toast & Bacon cupcakes w/Maple Buttercream frosting. My first thought was - mmmmmm.....bacon! My second was - In a cupcake? I wanted something different and this definitely was different.

Making cupcakes from scratch is a lot different from out the box. I'm sure you all know this. But remember, I won that fancy Kitchen Aid mixer, so I have to use it, right. It's takes a little more time (and a bigger mess) to bake from scratch, but I think the results are so worth it. I even got fancy and bought a started cupcake decorating kit. I was a little worried about making the buttercream frosting. Someone told me it can be hard to do, but I had no problems. The cupcakes and the frosting were yummylicious! And they looked pretty too! I was so happy with the way they turned out! So Wednesday evening I will be baking another batch for the bake sale. I can't wait to see how people react to bacon in a cupcake!

I have other cupcake recipes to try. I might just start a series of cupcake posts!

In other news, I knit another babydoll! This is my 5th one and soon will be off to her new home.

Where you will find me

On these cold winter evening this is most likely where you will find me - on the couch, under a blanket in my favorite worn tattered sweater, knitting. And since I've knit Zoya, she's usually sitting next to me. Yes, I love my doll!

FO and Creative Friday - I Heart Dolls!

Happy Friday Everyone!

Here in NC we were hoping for a snow day today. News last night was saying we would get snow. Needles to say we were all excited for a snow day on Friday. Woke up this morning to nothing! Nada! Zilch! How disappointing!

Oh well, on to FO and Creative Friday. I have become a doll fanatic! This is my newest doll Zoya, made from a Deena Thomson-Menard design. I LOVE all her doll patterns. I have several others on my list to knit.

I made Zoya for myself. I just couldn't part with her.

Dolls

Growing up I don't remember having a lot of dolls. I have an old Christmas picture of myself clutching a doll, but I don't remember the doll. The one doll I remember was a Holly Hobbie cloth doll. She had a pink bonnet on, long dress with apron, and boots - all cloth. Growing up I loved Little House on the Prairie, so I'm sure that's why this doll stands out in my memory. I so wanted to be Laura Ingalls. Of all my hand knits, the dolls I've made have been my favorites. I've given all three of them away, and hope they will be well loved and treasured keepsakes.

This is my new doll. She is looking alien like right now, but I have the picture in my head of what she will look like and I think she will be pretty cute.

FO and Creative Friday - Monsters and Hats

Happy Friday!

It's been a while since I've participated in FO and Creative Friday, but I've knitted lots! I've been on a hat knitting frenzy. Holiday hats, preemie hats, just regular ole' hats. Hats, Hats, Hats!

Along with all the hats, I'm working on a few monsters and babydoll for Christmas. Once all my Christmas knitting is done, I have a few doll patterns I'm going to try out and can't wait! And a few more hats of course - can never have too many hats!

WIP Wednesday and Yarn Along

It's been a while since I've participated in WIPW or Yarn Along. I've been a knitting my little heart out, but haven't been sharing here on the blog. Instagram has taken over! But I've promised myself I'm going to get back to blogging. I even did 2 posts yesterday. And now today's post. See - progress already!

I'm right in the middle of Christmas knitting, but that didn't stop me from starting a new project. A patchwork garter throw in rainbow colors - my Rainbow Throw! This will be a year long project - a square a day. Normally people start a one a day project with the new year, but whenever I do that, I never finish. I think it's the New Year sabotage, so I decided to start early and just maybe I will stick to it. It's just a square a day, right? I can do that! I have 2 squares done already! I'm on a roll!!!

I probably won't be making 365 squares, but not sure how many I'm making. I want my blanket big enough to wrap up in, so however many squares it takes to get to that size.

I even have pretty rainbow needles to keep me motivated.

Wow - bad blogger

Wow - it's been almost 2 months since my last post! My blogging has seen better days! I've been itching to get back to blogging, and didn't know where to start! So just going to jump right in and start with my knitting! I have definitely been living a Knitting Life - one of my favorite tags on Instagram. Knitting is never far from me.

I've recently been on a hat knitting frenzy! Our city's Holiday parade was coming up and I wanted to knit holiday themed hats for the parade for me and the boys to wear. Ezekiel, my 13yr old refused to wear a holiday hat, so I knitted the orange and grey below for him. I wore the Rudolph hat, Elijah, my 10yr old wore the elf hat and my sister wore the snowman one. Another post coming on the actual parade.

The other 2 hats were given as gifts. I have several other hats I want to make, but taking a short break from hats to work on Christmas gifts, but I may sneak a hat in between the Christmas knitting. I love a quick project - so satisfying!

WIP Wednesday and Yarn Along ~ Zombies and Hats

Hello Crafty Peeps!

I've been working on a few projects this week. A zombie couple for a girlfriend of mine who shares my love of The Walking Dead tv show. The season 3 premiere is October 14, so trying to have the couple done by then. I'm not very good with making zombies. My girlfriend says she needs more blood or something. I'm not so sure.

My second project is a Tassel hat. I love all of Pixiebell designs. Maybe it's because I love working with chunky yarn and big needles. Most of her designs use chunky yarn. The kitty hat I made was her cat design. I plan on making several of her hats.
